COVER REVEAL: Fall Red Empire by Kerstin Espinosa Rosero (Burn Red Skies, #3)
A few years back, I had the pleasure of participating in Mark Lawrence’s Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off (SPFBO) contest, which is one of the best resources around for readers who want to get into reading more indie fantasy books, but aren’t sure where to start.
Every year, 300 authors enter their self-published fantasy books for judging. Those are divided between 10 teams of judges hand-picked by Mark Lawrence. Each judging team picks a favorite from their batch as their finalist, then every team reads and scores all 10 finalists in order to determine 1 champion.
Many of the authors with books in the contest have gone on to become very successful names. Ryan Cahill, M.L. Wang, James Islington…the list goes on!
Kerstin Espinosa Rosero was a finalist back in 2021 with her debut novel, Burn Red Skies. Not gonna lie; Burn Red Skies was an insta-buy for me, with its striking red-and-white-on-black cover, and I’m always intrigued any time I hear, “dragons, but different”.

What’s the book about?
Fall Red Empire is the third and final volume of Burn Red Skies, a dark epic fantasy series with interdimensional dragons, airship pirates, elemental magic, and sword lesbians.
It starts with a rift that burns a thousand scars into the sky. It makes the winds stop. It makes the stars go dark. It awakens an ancient beast. And with it, a new reign of blood. It is the Summoning. And at the heart of it is fire.
