Shipping from Australia to US and US tariffs

Due to the US government’s imposition of new tariffs and suspension of the de minimis exemption from 29 August 2025, I am no longer shipping hand signed editions and book boxes to the US as of September 2025. Although Australia Post plans to resume shipments to the US and its overseas territories from 25 September 2025 and books produced in Australia, theoretically, should not be attracting any tariffs, I have heard a number of firsthand anecdotes from other authors sending shipments to the US where tariffs are being levied even when they should not be. (Books produced in China, i.e. my special editions, are subject to a 7.5% tariff.)

I’ve also done a bit of preliminary testing of the new Australia Post-Zonos integration and the current implementation seems a bit buggy to me. I have very little confidence in the accurate assessment and calculation of tariffs and I don’t want to end up with a situation where my readers are paying tariffs that they shouldn’t be charged, or where my readers’ book/s are getting held up in US customs because of an error in these systems in how they assess and collect of tariffs.

I’ll continue to monitor the situation, but I won’t be shipping anything to the US from Australia until I’m confident the new processes and systems are functioning properly.

If you are in the US, your best (and most cost-efficient) option is to purchase an unsigned edition (which ships from a US printer) and add a signed bookplate to your order (mailed separately as an international letter from Australia).
